Showcasing Thamesmead Talent

30th March 2017

Thamesmead Youth Voice (TYV) held their annual Open Mic Night for Red Nose Day here on Saturday (25 March).

Over 150 audience members attended the event which showcased 24 acts, raising more than £450 for Comic Relief.

TYV spent two months meeting twice a week in order to organise the event - everything from marketing and ticket sales to finding the acts.

Breis hosted the event and has become a firm favourite with young people in Thamesmead. Only last month he facilitated a spoken word workshop at The Garrard Academy (formerly The Business Academy Bexley), which saw many of those who took part in this event, perform for the first time.

This was TVY's fourth Open Mic Night which has raised more than £1,000 for Comic Relief. An act which has not gone unnoticed by the charity when they facilitated a Skype call between a member of TYV with a young person who lives in Sierra Leone, so they could talk about their lives and TYV could find out where the money they have raised has been spent.
